Gunther Sets new Record for Longest Intercontinental Championship Reign

Gunther defeated Chad Gable to retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship on the September 4, 2023 episode of Raw. The match ended in a disqualification when Ricochet interfered and attacked Gunther. As a result, Gunther retained the title.

This was the second match between Gunther and Gable for the Intercontinental Championship. The first match took place on the August 21, 2023 episode of Raw, and ended in a countout victory for Gable.

Gunther has now held the Intercontinental Championship for 315 days, which is the fifth-longest reign in the title’s history. He is only 38 days away from breaking The Honky Tonk Man’s record of 453 days.

It is unclear who Gunther’s next challenger will be. However, it is possible that he will face Ricochet in a rematch. Ricochet has been on a winning streak since returning to Raw, and he has expressed his desire to challenge for the Intercontinental Championship.

Another potential challenger is Sami Zayn. Zayn has been feuding with Shinsuke Nakamura, but he could turn his attention to the Intercontinental Championship after Nakamura defeats Seth Rollins for the WWE Championship.
